Clarified Butter

Meet Sabrina, a food and lifestyle blogger who shares her favourite recipes and inspirations involving food, city life, decor and more. A self-taught baker, Sabrina whips up all kinds of desserts, trying to take over the world one cookie at a time.

Describe your signature dish.

I love baking as much as I love eating. The first thing I ever baked from scratch was cookies! My signature cookie is my Spicy Ginger Molasses that I bake every fall/winter. They are crispy on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside and a little spicy from the candied ginger. Last year I won a Cookie Swap contest for them.

Three Instagram accounts we should be following and why?

@juliahengel – Julia inspires me to look at the world through rose coloured lenses. She is literally #goals. Her aesthetic is so feminine and classic. She’s the ultimate girly girl and anyone who loves pink, florals and cute dresses.

@monikahibbs – Monika Hibbs is all about living the most beautiful life. She focuses on everyday life. Monika inspires me to live my best life at home, to worry about the small details, to try new and delicious recipes and is my inspiration for white and bright photos.

@allons.y – Isabelle is a local freelance photographer and she’s SO talented. She’s also super sweet and loves to eat! She has this ability to make any space look absolutely beautiful and her food photography makes me hungry EVERY TIME! Whenever I need inspiration for brunch places or coffee shops, I’m always scrolling through her beautiful feed.

Appliance and/or ingredient you absolutely can’t live without and why?

I am obsessed with coffee and my coffee maker is something I use every single day. I always start off with a drip coffee and then treat myself to an almond milk latte later in the day. But as a baking enthusiast, I definitely canNOT live without my Kitchenaid mixer. I’ve used it more times than I can remember and it’s one of my must-haves in life.

Favourite food city?

Living in Toronto, I’m always surrounded by delicious food. There are so many wonderful restaurants and cafes in the city. I’ve been to New York, Paris, Copenhagen, Japan and London previously and have tried so many different cuisines. My favourite food city would have to be Paris. A city full of delicious croissants, macarons, crepes and desserts, no wonder it’s my favourite!

You’re having a dinner party for 6, who do you invite?

I’ve been so fortunate to meet so many beautiful and inspiring friends from Instagram and we all have one thing in common – the love for food. I would invite my friends Joelle @lapetitenoob, Rebeca @rebecazulch, Didier @didieryhc, Isabelle @allons.y, Hillory @hellohillory and Diala @dialaskitchen. It would be a night of delicious food, laughter and lots and lots of photos.

Favourite and least favourite food trends of all time?

I LOVE food and have this inside joke with my friends that I never get full. There are so many food trends that I love and have yet to try! A few of my favourite food trends are:

  • Sriracha: I love hot sauce and literally put it on everything.
  • No-churn ice cream: so easy and so delicious.
  • Smoothie bowls: I never understood the appeal of eating a smoothie with a spoon but don’t knock it until you try it!
  • Avocado toast: How did we not think of this before? There are so many ways you can elevate a classic avocado toast. Next time try it with pomegranates!

Some food trends I’d love to try:

  • Turmeric latte, or “golden milk”: It’s said to have a lot of health and beauty benefits.

Least favourite food trend: Colourful lattes made with food colouring. While they are beautiful, I’d prefer not to drink my coffee with artificial flavouring/colouring in it.

Mobile App you can’t live without?

Hi my name is Sabrina and I am addicted to Instagram. Follow me @my.miaou!

Tell us about your food mentor or who inspires you on a day to day.

I’m inspired everyday by people and photos that I find on Instagram and Pinterest. I don’t just have one food mentor, there are so many bakers, chefs and foodies out there that inspire me everyday.

Favourite food book/documentary/movie?

I love watching anything about food. The history, craft and preparation of food all intrigues me. There’s a series on Netflix called Chef’s Table that takes you inside the kitchens and minds of International Culinary chefs. Also Anthony Bourdain’s travel and food series. But the one documentary that really resonated with me was Jiro Dreams of Sushi. It follows an 85 year old man who has dedicated his entire life to perfecting sushi. He owns a Michelin Star restaurant in Japan. That alone was the reason we just HAD to travel to Japan two years ago!

Favourite food emoji?

I love ALL the food emojis! But the donut is my fave! 🍩 🍩 🍩
